Hallström, one of the founders of the company ENVAC. The technology for pneumatic trash collection originated in Sweden, with the first such system installed in 1961 in a hospital in Sollefteå, a town northeast of Stockholm by Olof H. One of those ideals was to have a car-free island and one of the means of achieving necessitated a sanitation system without curbside pickup. In 1971, architect Philip Johnson ( Seagram Building, Glass House) and his partner John Burgee developed the master plan for Roosevelt Island with a core list of essential elements, some of which can still be felt today.
